The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed for second-career adults who have previously attained a bachelor’s degree in a field other than teaching and would like to become teachers. The program provides an online alternative pathway to teaching at the graduate level for those who live outside a reasonable radius of a teacher preparation program.

MAT Graduate Admissions Checklist

Step 1 — Apply to Graduate Study 

  • Complete the Chadron State Graduate Admissions Application (online).  

Step 2 — Send Official Transcripts 

  • One official transcript from the institution that awarded your bachelor’s degree. 
  • Official transcripts from any institutions attended after the bachelor’s degree (even if no credit was earned). 
  • Have Official Transcripts Sent to transcript@csc.edu 

Step 3 — Optional – Complete the FAFSA 

  • In order to be eligible for federal loans a student must be enrolled in at least Half time. 
  • Institutional Enrollment Status Definitions 
    • Graduate (per semester and summer term) 
      • Full time = 9+ credit hours 
      • Three quarter time = 7-8 credit hours 
      • Half time = 5-6 credit hours 
      • Less than half time = 4 or less credit hours 

Step 4 — Meet with Dave Perkins 

  • Dave Perkins is the Director of Field Experience & Certification and can prepare a program worksheet outlining the classes you’ll need for your endorsement track. You can reach him at dperkins@csc.edu.
