Internships in Health, Physical Education, and Human Performance (HPEHP)

An internship is a chance for you to earn college credit while gaining valuable, hands-on work experience. Anywhere from 1 to 12 credits of internship can be earned during a semester, and a total of 18 can be applied toward a degree at CSC. HPEHP interns are required to complete 50 contact hours of internship per 1 credit hour of course work.  For example, a three-credit hour internship will require 150 hours of internship work.  This does not include time spent by the student completing daily work logs, discussions, final evaluations and the portfolio.  Strength and Conditioning interns are required to complete 300 hours of field experience based on Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education standards (CASCE).  150 hours will be completed in HPEHP 340 Practicum.  The remainder of the 150 hours are required in HPEHP 499 Strength and Conditioning Internship.

Many degree programs in HPEHP require at least three credit hours of internship.

The degrees requiring internships are:

  • Sport, Fitness and Recreation Management with options in
  • Athletic Administration
  • Coaching
  • Community and Adventure Recreation
  • Fitness and Wellness
  • Strength and Conditioning (6 credit hours)

Graduate internship credits are available in HPEHP as well. Internship credits cost the same amount as any other course credits and will be displayed on your college transcript.

Requirements and prerequisites for all HPEHP internships can be found in the HPEHP Internship Student Handbook at the bottom of the page.

Enrolling in HPEHP Internships

Students wishing to enroll in HPEHP internships need to consult their HPEHP faculty advisor.  Approval of the internships must be made by faculty advisors within the HPEHP department.  Strength and Conditioning students will also be required to submit a “Memorandum of Understanding.”  This document must be obtained from the Strength and Conditioning Field Experiencer Coordinator.  The enrollment form, internship training agreement, Student Internship Handbook, and Site Supervisor Handbook are found below.

Typhon and CSC Online

HPEHP interns will be required to use two online learning platforms to submit information to the HPEHP College Supervisor and Site Supervisor during the internship.  CSC Online (CANVAS) will be used to submit Learning Outcomes, Discussions, and the final Portfolio.  Daily Time Logs and Final Evaluations will be submitted through Typhon.  Students will be given access and instructions to Typhon following enrollment in the internship.
