Pursuing a second bachelor’s degree (Post-Baccalaureate)

A second bachelor’s degree applicant is a student who has obtained a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. accredited institution or its evaluated equivalent from an approved evaluator for international degrees, and who is seeking to apply for a second bachelor’s degree.

Requirements

Students pursuing a second bachelor’s degree must complete the following requirements:

  • meet all admissions requirements for that degree
  • submit official transcripts for review, prior to starting classes
  • earn a minimum of 30 credit hours successfully from Chadron State College beyond the first bachelor’s degree
  • must have a declared major different from the major that has already been earned for the first bachelor’s degree
  • must select one of the following: 1) a comprehensive major or 2) a subject major and a minor in a different academic area than the subject major
  • meet with an academic advisor for an evaluation of courses needed to obtain the second degree, and not deviate from the established academic plan
  • transcript evaluation, SAP calculation, and an official advising session must be completed prior to starting courses

The general education/essential studies course requirements will be waived for the second bachelor’s degree.

Financial Aid Considerations

Second bachelor’s degree seeking students with an undecided major are considered undeclared for financial aid purposes and are not eligible for aid.

Generally, second bachelor’s degree seeking undergraduate students may be eligible for Federal Work Study, Federal Stafford Loans, or private loans.

Typically, second bachelor’s degree seeking students are not eligible to receive grants such as Pell, FSEOG, or institutional grants and scholarships.

Second bachelor’s degree seeking students are reviewed as undergraduate students for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy purposes.  Therefore, they must maintain SAP to remain eligible for federal financial aid.  Attempted hours, including those hours attempted for previous undergraduate degree(s) will be used in the calculation.

Academic Standards

Second bachelor’s degree seeking students are subject to CSC’s Academic Good Standing, Probation and Suspension policies.

Students are not eligible for academic honors upon completion of the post baccalaureate degree.

Students who wish to renew an expired teaching certificate or wish to take courses solely to keep their current certificate valid, are considered non-degree seeking students.
