Q: How do I get logo files?
A: Contact any member of College Relations. We are happy to work with you, and want to make sure the logo is reproduced accurately in your project. Logo usage must be approved by College Relations before you finalize any project.
Q: Can I just download the logo from the CSC website or a web image search?
A: Please avoid downloading logo graphics from the web. These files have often been sized and adjusted specifically for one use, and may not look right when used in other places. Please contact a member of College Relations to get the correct logo files.
Q: Can I get a logo for a t-shirt, coffee mug, or another object?
A: Yes, College Relations can provide specific logo files for these projects. Please contact a member of College Relations to get started.
Q: Can I get a logo for the side of a building, vehicle, or another large object?
A: Yes, College Relations can help. Please contact a member of College Relations early in planning for these larger projects so we can help with what is needed.
Q: What are the “screen” and “print” versions of the logo?
A: Colors need to be specified in exact ways because they are built differently for paper, fabric, screens, and other items. Print items use a combination of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks to create color, while electronic displays use a combination of red, green, and blue lights to create color.
Print CMYK colors are not generally interchangeable with electronic RGB colors, so we have created different versions of the logo with specific CMYK or RGB colors.
Q: When should I use the “screen” version or “print” version of the logo?
A: These guidelines will help you decide which logo to use.
- Project for the web or electronic displays: Use “screen” versions.
- Project for print, clothing, physical objects: Use “print” versions.
- Project for the web, and might be printed: Use “screen” versions.
College Relations can help with color questions for complicated projects — we want to make sure the logo and other graphics in your project are reproduced accurately.
Q: What are vector and raster files and how should I use them?
A: Vector files are built using mathematical lines and curves, and can be scaled up or down without losing quality — the edges will stay sharp at all sizes. Raster files are built on a grid of pixels, and will not scale cleanly — very small raster files will become soft and fuzzy if they are scaled up to large sizes.
High-quality reproduction of the logo on physical items will benefit from vector files. Often, the vendor will be able to use EPS files for this purpose. College Relations can provide the logo in EPS format.
For print designs, a raster format such as PNG or JPEG will work for general purposes. For high-quality print projects, a vector format is preferred.
Q: I don’t like the ® registered trademark symbol appearing next to the logo. What can I do?
A: The ® registered trademark symbol must appear next to the logo as part of our efforts to maintain the trademark. For very large reproductions of the logo, the symbol can be reduced in size. College Relations will work with designers in these cases. The symbol should be reasonably visible — it should not be obscured in any way.
Q: Part of the logo blends in to the background of my design. Can I modify the logo to fix that?

This figure shows some of the ways the CSC logo can be reproduced against dark and light backgrounds.
A: A common issue with the Eagle logo is when the black eagle beak blends in against a dark background. It is OK if this happens. The logo should not be altered or added to as a workaround. For dark backgrounds, using the single-color white version of the logo is a good choice, as it will display with enough contrast. Another option is to place the logo entirely within a larger shape, such as a rounded rectangle. College Relations can help with decisions about which logo to use and if additional design work is needed.
Q: Can I use the logo as part of a new department logo?
A: College Relations can review design options for new departmental marks that might incorporate the Eagle logo. In no case may the Eagle logo be altered to fit a new mark design.
Q: Can I show the logo with new colors?
A: The set of colors currently in use for the logo — Cardinal, Black, Crites Gray, and White — are the only colors available for use. The logo may not be adjusted to use new colors.
Q: Can I use the logo as a background element in my design?
A: The logo can be used as a background element only if it would not be obscured. For example, some web pages are designed to resize elements based on the user’s screen size, and a background logo might become obscured. In these cases, it is better to avoid using the logo as a background element.
Q: Can I make the logo very small and out of the way in my design?
A: The logo can be shown at small sizes within reason. It should remain large enough for viewers to recognize it, along with the Chadron State College lettering if used, and the ® registered trademark symbol. The logo can often be placed at the top or bottom of a design to appear in a pleasing but unobtrusive way. The logo should never be hidden or obscured.
Q: Is there an academic logo for CSC?
A: The Eagle logo serves as the overall institutional logo for CSC as a whole. Other marks should not be used in place of the Eagle logo.
Q: Can I use the official (presidential) seal in my design?
A: The official (presidential) seal is reserved for formal or ceremonial documents and should not be used for general designs. College Relations must review and approve any use of the official seal.
Q: How do I report misuse of the logo?
A: If you see the logo used in a way that might violate CSC’s branding standards, please contact collegerelations@csc.edu to let College Relations know.
Q: Do I need permission to use the logo?
A: College Relations needs to review all uses of the CSC logo to check for compliance with branding standards. If the logo use is not compliant, College Relations will help you adjust it.
Q: Can I use the logo on non-commercial items?
A: College Relations will review non-commercial logo requests on a case-by-case basis. Non-commercial use of the logo must comply with CSC’s branding standards.
