To register for classes:

You and your faculty advisor may decide from a variety of options for enrolling in courses when the registration period opens. These may include:

Considerations:

  • Courses that are in high demand will fill up quicker than others. The sooner you register, the more likely you are to secure a seat in the course.
  • Work with your advisor to adjust your schedule or plans if a course is full or unavailable. Faculty may also help complete a waitlist request.
  • If you have a double major, endorsements, or a minor, it’s a good idea to visit with an advisor for both degree programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students are assigned a faculty advisor during their first semester at CSC. The faculty advisor will be a member in the same department as your major. If you are undecided, you will be advised by a Student Services’ advisor or Deena Kennell. Students with more than one major may have more than one advisor.

You can find who your advisor is in MyCSC in the Advising Center tab:

Students can request a different advisor by contacting the START Office.

Faculty have their own offices on campus, often located in the same building where their courses are scheduled. START Advisors are located in Crites Hall.

Your advisor’s contact information can be found in the CSC Directory. Each faculty has a preferred way to contact, usually listed in their syllabus or Canvas course. If you do not receive an immediate response, it’s a good idea to follow up with a visit to their office or phone call.

Office hours will be posted outside the faculty’s office door.

Grade level classifications are based on completed credits.

  • Freshman = 1 – 29 completed credits
  • Sophomore = 30 – 59 completed credits
  • Junior = 60 – 89 completed credits
  • Senior = 90 or more completed credits

To enroll yourself using the Shopping Cart feature, view this Tutorial from the START Office.

Classes can be dropped in MyCSC, similar to how you registered. If your account does not allow you to drop the class through MyCSC, contact START or your advisor for assistance.

Student academic requirements can be found in MyCSC. These requirements are summarized in a section called “Academic Requirements.” These classes are also listed in your degree audit.

It is your responsibility to contact your advisor to introduce yourself and make regular appointments to monitor your progress toward graduation. Your advisor may reach out reminding you to register for courses or for reasons related to your academic progress.

Essential Studies courses are required for all students at CSC, regardless of major. The Essential Studies Program (ESP) includes a variety of courses from many disciplines. For more information, visit csc.edu/esp
