Brust's regal fritillaries article published

CHADRON – In an article published in The Journal of the Lepidopterists' Society, Chadron State College Professor of Biology Dr. Mathew Brust, and co-authors Stephen M. Spomer and William Bergman, share years of observation about the regal fritillary butterfly of western Nebraska including two main tactics it uses to survive and propagate. First, the butterfly produces an extremely high number of eggs, and second, it tends to be nomadic, depending on rainfall and resulting habitat.

Buchmann volunteers connecting biological relatives

CHADRON – During its November meeting in Wayne, Nebraska, the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees approved several new programs, options, and certificates for Chadron State College. CHADRON – Chadron State College’s Eagle Esports club has grown to about 30 members and is planning an open house Tuesday, Nov. 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Kent Hall north wing, second floor. Carley, a junior from Dalton, Nebraska, said she chose Chadron State College because she loves the feeling of being in a small town. The Mini Big Event helps with community beautification

CHADRON – Nearly 30 Chadron State College students assisted at eight work sites Tuesday during the fourth annual The Mini Big Event. Projects included raking leaves, picking up trash, stringing lights, and marking pavement. Sandoz Center showcases After Hours Artists

CHADRON – More than 75 items created by 25 exhibitors, all Chadron State College employees, are on display in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center through Nov. 30. About 20 different media are represented in the Artists After Hours show, including acrylic and oil paintings, ink and pen drawings, cross stitch, multi-media, crochet, gingerbread, creative writing, recycled cardboard, glass, wood, and books.

Sheldon Statewide exhibit opens Sept. 2

CHADRON – Chadron State College will host a Sheldon Statewide exhibit, The Artist as Muse, in Memorial Hall’s Main Gallery Sept. 2-29. The exhibit includes portraits by artists and of artists from the Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Tibbits' research to be published

CHADRON – Chadron State College Assistant Professor Dr. Tawny Tibbits is a co-author of an article accepted for publication by Advances in Archaeological Science. The paper's lead author is Dr. Marieka Brouwer Burg from the University of Vermont, followed by Tibbits, and Dr. Eleanor Harrison-Buck from the University of New Hampshire. Design student interns with Colorado firm

CHADRON – Chadron State College senior Mia MacDonald of Cheyenne, Wyoming, recently completed a graphic design internship with DHM, a landscape architect company, in its Durango, Colorado, office. MacDonald made the connection with the firm through her father, who is a civil engineer. Chancey Williams concert Sept. 18

CHADRON – A former saddle-bronc rider from Moorcroft, Wyoming, Chancey Williams, will perform a concert in conjunction with the Chadron State College Rodeo Saturday, Sept. 18. Fall enrollment increases at Chadron, Peru, and Wayne

LINCOLN – The Nebraska State College System (NSCS) continues to see overall growth in enrollment for the System. As of Sept. 3, the NSCS had an overall increase in full-time equivalent (FTE) of 2 percent. This increase can be attributed to the large freshman classes at Chadron, Peru, and Wayne State Colleges. CHADRON – Twenty Chadron State College graduate students received their Master of Arts in Education degrees Aug. 3 in a special ceremony at the Anchorage School District Office. He just didn’t know something as simple as fishing would help. CHADRON – Chadron State College recently developed an online orientation with Advantage Design Group to assist all incoming students. The last time CSC offered in-person orientation events was the summer of 2019. CSC houses extensive invertebrate collection

CHADRON – Chadron State College students benefit from an extensive invertebrate collection. It contains twice as many specimens of lady beetles and more diversity overall than any other higher education collection in Nebraska, according to Dr. Matt Brust, professor. The CSC collection has about 1,900 lady beetle specimens representing more than 30 species and about 7,300 grasshoppers representing 120 species.

CSC graduate, Dr. Gene Hughes, leaves great legacy

CHADRON – One of Chadron State College’s most prominent graduates, Dr. Eugene M. Hughes, died March 10 in Flagstaff, Arizona. He was 86. Hughes, recognized as an outstanding mathematics professor at Chadron State College began his career in higher education administration while at CSC and was the president of two major universities and the interim president of a third institution.

CHADRON – The Chadron State College Scholastic Contest, an annual opportunity to recognize and the academic achievements of regional high school students, has been canceled for 2021. Co-Chairs of the Scholastic Day Committee Jamie Hamaker and Sara Smith said the tradition will resume next year.

CSC community supports Food Pantry

CHADRON – This month's Chadron State College Food Pantry will include fresh produce for the first time, according to organizer Kate Pope. An anonymous donor is providing the produce to be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Food Pantry will be in the Student Center Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Mencia appointed at CSC's Student Trustee

LINCOLN – Governor Pete Ricketts has appointed Ruth Mencia of Grand Island, Panashe Jacha of Elkhorn, and Jackson Richling of Grand Island to serve as student trustees on the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees. They will serve a one-year term and represent Chadron, Peru, and Wayne State College students.

High Plains Band and Choir Festival convenes

CHADRON – The 49th annual High Plains Band and Choir festival will convene at Chadron State College Monday. About 70 students from 23 high schools in Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota will attend. Due to COVID-19, the event will not feature a guest conductor this year. Senior students who plan to attend CSC this fall have the opportunity to audition for music scholarships at the festival.

CHADRON – The Chadron State College Music Department has scheduled 13 events for the spring semester. All events are free and open to the public, however, attendees are required to adhere to CSC’s Face Covering Policy and maintain social distancing. Live streaming is also available at csc.edu/live.

Exhibit showcasing the life of Sandoz now open

CHADRON – The life and accomplishments of Mari Sandoz will be showcased through March 5 in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. to noon. The Sandoz Center's accessibility is subject to change in accordance with COVID-19 protocols.

CHADRON – The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees had its regular business meeting Jan. 13. At the meeting, the Board approved a new graduate degree program, four minors, and three MBA focus areas for Chadron State College.

CHADRON – Chadron State College will host the annual Nebraska State College System leadership conference Thursday and Friday in a virtual format. About 80 Student Senate members and advisers from CSC, Peru State College, and Wayne State College will attend.

CSC facilities reopening to the public Monday

CHADRON – After being closed to the public since Nov. 18, 2020, Chadron State College will reopen select facilities to the community beginning Monday, Jan. 25. The buildings reopening to the public are the Nelson Physical Activity Center, the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center, Crites Hall, King Library, Memorial Hall, and the Chicoine Center.

CSC launches Respiratory Care Partnership with Nebraska Methodist College

CHADRON – Chadron State College is partnering with Nebraska Methodist College to offer a new program in which students can earn a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health Sciences from Chadron State College and an Associate’s of Science degree in Respiratory Care from Nebraska Methodist College. The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees approved the program in June 2020.
