CHADRON – Longtime historical researcher and interpreter Bill Gwaltney will present Beyond the Pale: African Americans in the Fur Trade of the Far West, at the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center Tuesday at 7 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by the Nebraska State Historical Society and the Galaxy Series. Admission is free and open to the public.

CHADRON – March is designated as Chadron State College’s Advising Month. Summer 2025 enrollment opens on Monday, March 24 for all students. Fall 2025 enrollment also begins on Monday, March 24 for graduate, post-baccalaureate, and ROTC students. Seniors can enroll starting Tuesday, March 25, juniors on Wednesday, March 26, sophomores on Thursday, March 27, and freshmen on Friday, March 28.

CSC offers an Education Specialist degree in Mental Health and Addictions

CHADRON – Chadron State College will offer an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) Degree in Mental Health and Addictions starting in Fall 2025. The online program will advance student opportunities, offering school counselors the chance to fulfill requirements toward becoming a Nebraska Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) or a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC).

Senior art show, Confronting the Subconscious, opens Monday

CHADRON – The Spring 2025 Chadron State College Senior Art Show features work by Angelyse Liliana Perez and Hannah Wohl. The show opens in Memorial Hall’s Main Gallery Monday, March 24 and will close April 11. The public is invited to a reception April 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Memorial Hall. Hours for the gallery are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

CHADRON – Chancellor of the Nebraska State College System, Dr. Paul Turman, has appointed Dr. Jodi Kupper as Interim President of Chadron State College, effective June 10, 2025. Kupper currently serves as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the Nebraska State College System Office and brings 27 years of experience in higher education, including 11 years of leadership experience at the System Office.

Public historian to speak about the Chile Pepper King

CHADRON – Dr. Peter Kopp will be the featured speaker in a Chadron State College Galaxy Series talk Tuesday, April 29 at 7 p.m. in the Sandoz Center. His presentation, which is free and open to the public, is titled, Chile Pepper King: Fabián Garcia and the Botany of the Borderlands. Kopp is preparing a book with the same title.

40 Years of global learning: A retrospective on Study Abroad

CHADRON – As Chadron State College prepares to send its 40th group of students on the Justice Studies Study Abroad Program this May, the long-standing tradition of academic and cultural exploration continues to impact alumni. Since 1977, CSC students from a variety of majors have had the opportunity to study, immerse themselves in new cultures, and gain firsthand experience that will stay with them throughout their careers.

Students to direct theatre scenes Friday and Saturday

CHADRON – The Chadron State College Theatre Department will present scenes directed by students on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Black Box Theater. The show is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending may reserve tickets online. The two scenes are from two comedies by Rich Orloff: Mars Needs Women, but not as Much as Arnold Schecter and Women in Heat. The length of the PG-13 show, will be about 45 minutes, according to Theatre adjunct instructor David Craven.

Hill, Janssen, and McMaster Appointed as Student Trustees

LINCOLN – Governor Jim Pillen has appointed Samantha Hill of Chadron State, Austen Janssen of Peru State, and Robynne McMaster of Wayne State to serve as student trustees on the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges. They will serve a one-year term (2025-2026 academic year) and represent the students of the State Colleges.

Residents express gratitude for The Big Event

CHADRON – More than 360 Chadron State College students and employees volunteered at 60 job sites April 26 during The Big Event (TBE), an annual day of service that includes painting fences, stairs, and buildings for Chadron residents and businesses. Other tasks included yard work, picking up trash, and cleaning out plant beds. Volunteers also completed indoor activities such as cleaning and organizing at churches and museums.

Environmental Remediation class studies ivermectin’s effects on plants and insects

CHADRON – Students enrolled in Dr. Jeffrey Kiiskila’s Environmental Remediation course (BIOL 327) conducted experiments during the Spring 2025 semester studying the environmental impact of ivermectin, a common livestock dewormer, on plant and insect life native to southwestern South Dakota and northwestern Nebraska.

CHADRON – Chadron State College hosted 22 high school students from across Nebraska at the 61st Annual Nebraska Youth Range Camp June 9-12. According to Tevyn Pieper, project coordinator with the Sandhills Task Force and a camp co-director, the camp provided students with an intensive, hands-on learning experience, focusing on a diverse array of topics essential for sustainable rangeland stewardship.

WASHINGTON – Chantel Merchen, Director of the Office of Academic Success at Chadron State College, has been selected by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) for its 2025-26 Emerging Leaders Program (ELP). This year’s cohort of 37 academic and administrative professionals is the largest in the program’s 10-year history.

Project Strive: A legacy of student success and impact

CHADRON – The eight programs under the TRIO umbrella were created under the Higher Education Act of 1965 to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. The TRIO name comes from the first three programs implemented: Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Student Support Services.

CHADRON – Chadron State College honored Homecoming royalty during a pep rally Thursday on Elliott Field. Homecoming Queen, nominated by the International Club, was Natali Keni of Kahuku, Hawai’i. Keni is also involved in The Nest and is a member of the CSC Volleyball Team. King, nominated by The Nest, was Cort Rummel of Gurley, Nebraska. Rummel is also involved in Intramurals and serves as a student coach for the volleyball team.

CHADRON – The Chadron State College theatre department is preparing to present Delirium, an adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart, written by Assistant Professor and Director Brian Grob along with Elena Yazykova. The production will have a total of eight shows at the Black Box Theatre Oct. 30-31, and Nov. 1, Nov. 6-8 at 7 p.m., and Nov. 1 and Nov. 8 at 1 p.m.

Alumnus art show opens Monday

CHADRON – Chadron State College alumnus Morse Clary’s retrospective show will be in the Main Gallery of Memorial Hall, Monday through Oct. 31. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show is free and open to the public. His widow, Cathy Clary, is lending more than 50 of Clary’s sculptures to exhibit, including a piece from 1962, when Clary was the first to present a senior art student solo show.

According to the requirements listed online, each recipient family must include a minimum of three generations of graduates. The President's List consists of students with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Students met the requirements for the Dean’s List by earning at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
