Hill, Janssen, and McMaster Appointed as Student Trustees

LINCOLN – Governor Jim Pillen has appointed Samantha Hill of Chadron State, Austen Janssen of Peru State, and Robynne McMaster of Wayne State to serve as student trustees on the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges. They will serve a one-year term (2025-2026 academic year) and represent the students of the State Colleges.
"The Board of Trustees truly appreciates the unique perspectives and fresh insights our student leaders contribute. It is my privilege, as Chair, to welcome our new Student Trustees," said Bob Engles, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges.
Samantha Hill – Chadron State College Student Trustee
Hill, a sophomore at Chadron State College, is majoring in criminal justice and psychology with a minor in art. She has served as a PSAS Senator for the CSC Student Association, Art Guild secretary, Social Work and Psychology Club secretary, student representative for JED, Eagle Mentor, and CSC Admissions Ambassador. When addressing her role as a Student Trustee in her application, Samantha stated, "I have a passion for Chadron State College, and I want to use that passion to improve the College by listening to the needs of the student body and sharing what I learn with the Board."
Samantha is the daughter of Jessica Collins and Russell Hill of Gillette, Wyoming.
Austen Janssen – Peru State College Student Trustee
Janssen, a junior at Peru State College, is majoring in biochemistry and disease and human health and a minor in forensic chemistry. Austen is a member of the Cross Country Team, a Science National Honor Society member, a senior resident assistant, a student worker at computer services, and volunteers for Kids Against Hunger. When discussing his appointment, Austen stated, "I believe the true objective of a Student Trustee is to not only make sure that the students are happy at their institution but also to make sure that the Nebraska State College System in its entirety has a bright future for generations to come."
Austen is the son of Alan Janssen of Newcastle, Nebraska.
Robynne McMaster – Wayne State College Student Trustee
McMaster, a sophomore at Wayne State College, is a biology major with a minor in criminal justice. Robynne is a resident assistant, a week of welcome ambassador, YMCA Camp Foster Cabin Leader and Lifeguard, and a barista at Chartwells. Robynne stated in her application, "I am committed to advocating for the needs and concerns of my peers, ensuring every student feels heard and valued. My passion lies in facilitating meaningful change and fostering an inclusive environment where all voices contribute to the community's collective success."
Robynne is the daughter of Ian and Megan McMaster of Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, South Africa.
