Ellis to become next Publications Specialist

CHADRON – Riley Ellis has been hired as a Publications Specialist at Chadron State College, where he will manage the Print Shop and provide graphic design for the college’s marketing and communications efforts. Ellis’ first day is Jan. 5, filling a position vacated by Dewayne Gimeson, who retired in early January.

Rangeland program welcomes students from near and far

CHADRON – The Rangeland Management program at Chadron State College has a wide variety of students with diverse backgrounds, gathering from around the world to learn about the environment. Kai Isa, Gavin Molinar, and Patty Timmons all come from various places, yet they have united as classmates proving that CSC is a place of collaboration and community.

CHADRON – Chadron State College graduate student Sutton Pohlman of Stanton, Nebraska, is gaining valuable research experience through a mentorship with Dr. Clint Evrard, Assistant Professor of Physics and Chemistry. Both Pohlman and Evrard say their collaborative efforts reflect the value of faculty-student partnerships at CSC.

CSC to host ninth annual Best of the West

CHADRON – The Chadron State College Business Academy will host the ninth annual Best of the West Business Competition for regional high school students in the Student Center Tuesday. This year, 173 students from eight Nebraska schools are registered to compete compared to 108 competitors last year, according to Dr. Gary Dusek, Professor and Department Chair.

CHADRON – Point of Origin: Bridging Realities through Collage, Technology, and Identity, an exhibition by Natalie Tyree, is on display in Memorial Hall’s Main Gallery now through Friday, Feb. 13. The gallery is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

CHADRON – One-hundred sixty-one students from Nebraska high schools participated in the Ninth Annual Best of the West competition last Wednesday at Chadron State College. According to Dr. Gary Dusk, Business Academy Professor, Department Chair and event organizer, students from Alliance, Hemingford, Chadron, Hay Springs, Scottsbluff, Sidney, Valentine, and Mitchell high schools registered for the contest.

Graves Lecture Series to highlight outdoor journalism, law, and art

CHADRON — The Graves Lecture Series will resume later this month at Chadron State College. The series, which is free and open to the public, is a forum for speakers of many interests and disciplines. Since 2006, the series has included presentations about a wide variety of historical, cultural, artistic, and scientific areas. Each presentation this semester will be at 6 p.m. in the Sandoz Center’s Chicoine Atrium.

CSC art student brings children’s book to life through illustrations

CHADRON – Maya Goss of Cheyenne, Wyoming, a senior art student at Chadron State College, has completed a four-year project illustrating the children’s book, Figgy the Snowbird. The story about a little cat, Figgy, who goes on a driving adventure with his family, was written by a Chadron author whose pen name is Mika.

Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation announces 2025 award recipients

LINCOLN – Dr. Anthony Perlinski, Chadron State College Professor and Rangeland Management department chair, received the Nebraska Range and Conservation Endowment during the Nebraska Cattlemen annual awards banquet in December in Kearney, Nebraska. Perlinski was awarded a $6,000 grant on behalf of the Nebraska Cattlemen Research and Education Foundation.

CHADRON – Chadron State College hosted the annual Western District History Day March 4. A variety of categories were offered for high school and middle school student competitors. The top three winners in each category will advance to the Nebraska state contest in Lincoln on April 25. The National History Day theme is Turning Points in History.

CHADRON – Chadron State College’s Senior Art Show, Faulture – Where Creativity Begins, will include work by Bailey Dean of Highmore, South Dakota, and Maya Goss of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Sculpture dedication set for Friday

CHADRON – A new permanent outdoor sculpture, Field Work(s), installed near the Math Science Center of Innovative Learning (COIL) in late July will be dedicated this week. The piece fulfills Nebraska’s requirement that one percent of state construction funding for certain capital projects be used for public art. A reception is planned for Friday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the north with, lower level of COIL.

LINCOLN – The Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges has selected Assistant Professor Jordan Haas of Chadron State College as the 2026 Teaching Excellence Award recipient for the Nebraska State College System (NSCS). Haas was chosen during the Board’s April meeting and will be formally recognized during spring commencement ceremonies at Chadron State College.

The Big Event and its volunteers enjoy another successful outing

CHADRON – Chadron State College adjunct faculty member and adviser to The Big Event student staff, Nicky McHugh, called Saturday’s event a tremendous success led by students. A total of 292 volunteers registered in advance, with 42 more joining the effort the day of the event to serve 43 jobsites.
