The Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State College System approved a resolution during its regular business meeting in early April to recognize Denim Day on April 29 as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Denim Day is an international campaign started after an Italian Supreme Court ruling overturned a rape conviction, citing the victim’s tight jeans as implying consent. The campaign aims to challenge victim-blaming and raise awareness about misconceptions surrounding sexual violence.

The resolution encourages students, employees and community members across the system’s three campuses, Chadron State College, Peru State College and Wayne State College, to wear denim April 29 as a visible statement against sexual violence and harmful myths.

Each campus plans to promote participation through awareness efforts during April. The system also reaffirmed its commitment to providing an environment free from sexual harassment and discrimination.
