Alaska school coming for Teacher Interview Day

Published:

Chadron State College continues to build on its Alaska connection. One of the 34 schools registered for the annual Teacher Interview Day at CSC on Friday, March 14, is the Northern Slope Borough School District of Barrow, Alaska. Janet Hartman, CSC internship and career services office assistant, said the district from Alaska’s northern coast is seeking elementary teachers.

At more than 2,600 miles away, Hartman said the Alaska school is the farthest a school has come for Teacher Interview Day. Representatives from schools in Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming Colorado and Kansas also plan to attend.

Barrow’s football team, the Whalers, attended CSC’s high school team camp in summer 2007. The district’s visit to CSC comes a week after a group of CSC students and faculty members traveled to Alaska to assist organizers of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race and learn about the region’s history and culture.

Teacher Interview Day is designed to provide a convenient way for school districts and job-seekers to connect for interviews. Registration for the event begins at 10 a.m., with interviews beginning a half hour later. It is free for all current and prospective teachers who are interested in new opportunities.

The school districts planning to send interviewers and their available positions are listed on the latest teaching vacancy bulletin on CSC’s Career Services Web site, www.csc.edu/careerservices/services.asp.
