CHADRON – A pilot project is underway this fall to help Chadron State College freshmen build community. The Common Intellectual Experience is intended to help freshmen acclimate to academic life, examine important social issues, set academic expectations and foster critical thinking, according to Common Intellectual Experience committee co-chair Dr. Kathleen Kirsch.

CHADRON – Chadron State College’s Office of International Education lunch hour, Dine With Us, is expanding. For the past two spring semesters, the series has featured international students’ presentations about their home countries, but starting this semester, based on feedback from attendees, Associate Vice President of Student Services Sherry Douglas said students, faculty and staff will be invited to showcase their travel experiences.

CHADRON – Two Chadron State College Army ROTC cadets gained international experience through the Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency (CULP) program this summer. Mitchell Parish of North Platte, Nebraska, served in Senegal while Sam Klammer of Hastings, Nebraska, served in Poland.

CHADRON – Professional adventurer Brian O’Malley will speak at Chadron State College Thursday, Sept. 27. His presentation, “The Spirit of Adventure,” will be free and open to the public in the Student Center Ballroom at 7 p.m. According to Dr. Kim Madsen, whose First Year Inquiry course Survival Skills (FYI 169x) students selected O’Malley, his message reflects his experiences as a paramedic firefighter, mountain climber, SWAT officer, and paragliding pilot.

CHADRON – Chadron State College’s Constitution Day event will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center’s Chicoine Atrium. “Protests and the Constitution” will feature a panel discussion about protesting from a variety of angles, including the power of protesting, the history of protests, and the legal ramifications of conducting protests, according to Project Coordinator and event organizer Kate Pope. The event is free and open to the public.

CHADRON – The newly renovated Elliott Field at Beebe Stadium will be dedicated during an official ceremony Saturday. The ceremony, which is free and open to the public, is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. near the south gates. Scheduled speakers include Chadron State College President Randy Rhine, Chadron State Foundation Board Chair Marjean Terrell, and Nebraska State College System Chancellor Stan Carpenter.
