LINCOLN, Neb. – Senator Adam Morfeld’s (District 46) LB 439, which grants limited legal immunity to minors seeking help for themselves or someone else in need of immediate attention due to alcohol poisoning, officially took effect Aug. 30. The law will only apply to an individual who: (1) is experiencing an alcohol overdose; (2) calls for medical assistance; and (3) stays on the scene and cooperates fully with law enforcement when medical attention arrives. CHADRON – For the first time in history, Chadron State College has earned the Chadron Garden Club “Pick of the Month” award. The honor is noted by a photo in the local newspaper and a yard sign – a traveling trophy of sorts – placed in the recipient’s yard.

CHADRON – While construction was being completed on the east side of Chadron State College’s campus this summer, four West Court structures containing 10 apartments were being demolished on the west side. The units were constructed in the late 1950s and early 1960s but they were demolished as part of the first step in a three-year plan to remove the housing complex, according to Dale Grant, vice president of administration and finance. Asbestos abatement was completed prior to the demolition.

CHADRON – When Dr. Mathew Brust, associate professor of physical and life sciences at Chadron State College, traveled a few miles south of campus in July 2014 to collect hackberry butterflies for Steve Spomer, a colleague and butterfly expert in eastern Nebraska, he had no idea he would happen upon a pine tree grasshopper, formerly only documented 400 miles to the east.
