The Chadron State College Jazz Birds normally take the summer off, but this year the musicians who are directed by Dr. Sandy Schaefer are still performing. They will be in action on the patio at the Sinister Grin in the 100 block of Main Street in Chadron at 8 p.m. Friday, June 17. There’s no admission charge.

The 10th president of Chadron State College will be Dr. Janie Park of Red Lodge, Mont. Stan Carpenter, executive director of the Nebraska State College System, announced the decision Tuesday afternoon at a meeting of Chadron State employees. His recommendation will be presented to the NSCS Board of Trustees for approval at its meeting Thursday, June 9.

Gov. Dave Heineman made a quick stop in Chadron late Monday morning to point out that Chadron State College will be receiving considerably more funding from the state during the next two years and to discuss other action taken by the Legislature during the session that ended last week.

The Chadron State College Students in Free Enterprise team this spring had its best finish ever at the National Exposition at Kansas City, Mo., tying for fifth place. The CSC business students lost to only the University of Arizona, the eventual runner-up.
