More than 60 high school seniors have been awarded four-year, full-tuition scholarships to attend Chadron State College beginning this fall. Nearly 50 seniors have received Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges while the remainder have earned Gold Presidential Scholarships.

A sophomore at Chadron State College, Ericka Smith of Ainsworth, was elected vice president of the student section of the National American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association at the organization’s recent convention at Iowa State University.

Chadron State College students proved that they have lots of perseverance. Thirty-two of the original 42 participants in the first “Hand on the Car” contest that began at 9 a.m. Friday persevered for 24 hours, meaning that more than half of a deck of cards was drawn to determine the winner of a 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada that was the focal point of the contest.

Three South Dakota schools and two from Nebraska were the champions Friday at the 45th annual Inter-High School Scholastic Contest at Chadron State College. More than 1,800 students from 53 schools were entered in the event.

Some 1,850 students from 57 high schools in Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming are entered in the 45th annual Inter-High School Scholastic Contest at Chadron State College on Friday, April 1. Forty-nine tests will be administered, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at various locations on campus.
