CHADRON – The beginnings of the Pan-African movement at the turn of the 20th Century and the activists of African descent who fought globally for equal treatment and citizenship rights in the face of European imperialist rule over most of the African continent comprise the subject of a recently released book by Chadron State College Associate Professor Dr. Tom Smith.

CHADRON – The historical significance of Chadron’s pioneer photographers Ray and Faye Graves will be celebrated Sunday, Jan. 13 through March 29 in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center on the Chadron State College campus. “Photos from the Rubble” tells the story of approximately 1,100 glass plate negatives taken from 1906 to 1940 that were salvaged during the 1973 demolition of the Graves’ former studio.

CHADRON – Dr. Mathew Brust, professor of Natural Sciences at Chadron State College, will have his research work featured in an upcoming 112-page field guide. “Tiger Beetles of Minnesota, Wisconsin & Michigan,” produced by Kollath-Stensaas Publishing, will be released Feb. 15.

CHADRON – The dedication of the Sports Complex Sept. 15 led a long list of Chadron State College achievements in 2018. A renovation of Elliott Field, Beebe Stadium and the Marshall Press Box was completed in time for the Eagles to debut the $8.6 million facility Sept. 1. In November, the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees approved funding for the second phase of the project, a $1.8 million track facility.

CHADRON – More than 200 Chadron State College graduates were recognized during two Winter Commencement ceremonies Friday. Dr. Rob Stack, professor of mathematics, spoke to the master’s degree recipients while Judge Russell Harford addressed undergraduates.

CHADRON – The Chadron State College community responded with generosity when the Professional Staff Association (PSA) sent a request in mid-November asking faculty and staff to donate winter clothing for local children. A month later, PSA reported that 134 pairs of socks, 116 pairs of gloves, 104 hats and 25 pairs of mittens were donated. Additional contributions included two infant snowsuits, two pairs of toddler pajamas, four scarves and one coat.
