CAMBRIDGE BAY, Nunavut -- Christine Aye, a Chadron State College graduate living within the Arctic Circle, and her band recently placed 10th in a national radio contest with an original song. Over 4,500 bands entered the second annual “Searchlight: The Hunt for Canada’s Next New Artist,” sponsored by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

A group of six Chadron State College elementary education majors met four hours a week this semester with three fellow student science mentors in a program funded by NASA. Their laughter, squeals and screams sometimes punctuated the otherwise quiet halls of the Math and Science building.

On Saturday, Chadron State College will confer 92 master’s degrees at 8 a.m in Memorial Hall and 267 bachelor's degrees at 10 a.m. in the Armstrong Physical Education Building.

The High Plains Herbarium at Chadron State College has surpassed 60,000 specimens, according to herbarium director Steve Rolfsmeier. He said the collection, housed in the Math and Science building, currently stands at 60,789 specimens.
