Thirty-two students from various backgrounds are on the campus of Chadron State College this week to study range management. The 2006 Nebraska Range Shortcourse is presented by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Chadron State College and the Nebraska section of the Society for Range Management. The program features 18 instructors, including experts from higher education, state and federal government, conservation organizations and ranching.

A course that features the works of Nebraska writers will be offered online by Chadron State College in July. The course, which begins July 3 and ends July 28, will feature short works by many popular Nebraska authors, including Mari Sandoz, Willa Cather, Ted Kooser, Wright Morris, Weldon Kees, Loren Eiseley and John Neihardt.

One of America’s endearing musicals, “The Fantasticks,” opens this weekend at the Post Playhouse at Fort Robinson. It will be presented at 8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday and at 4 p.m. Sunday during its opening run. It will return to the Playhouse stage the evenings of Tuesday and Wednesday, June 20 and 21 and then be a part of the theatre’s repertory schedule the remainder of the summer.

A professor of family and consumer sciences at Chadron State College, Dr. Norma Nealeigh, recently received the Outstanding Service Award from the Nebraska Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Association at its conference in Kearney. Dr. Margaret Crouse, interim dean of the School of Professional and Graduate Studies at Chadron State, said Nealeigh has a strong interest in “service learning” and has incorporated several service-oriented projects into the family and consumer sciences curriculum

Tracy J. Shuck, director of dining services at Chadron State College, has been certified in the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation’s Foodservice Management Professional certification program. The FMP credential distinguishes restaurant and food service managers who have achieved a high level of knowledge, experience, leadership and professionalism within the industry.
