A lecture series named in honor of Dr. Dorset Graves, professor emeritus at Chadron State College, will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29 in Room 108 of the Reta King Library at CSC. The bi-weekly series will be open to the public without charge. It is being organized and sponsored by the library staff. Graves will be the first speaker.

Applications are being received for the HomeTown Competitiveness Academy that will be hosted by Chadron State College on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 12-14. The event will assist rural communities in becoming active in HTC, an economic development initiative that has generated widespread interest and sparked numerous success stories in Nebraska.

Three Chadron State College music students and James Margetts, assistant professor of music, spent a week in late July attending a workshop in early childhood music education in Billings, Mont. The students participating were Rachael Christian of Gordon, Becky Hoekema of Sidney and Nichole Neal of North Platte. Marian Beutler, a former adjunct music instructor at CSC, took part in a portion of the training.

No problems are anticipated at Chadron State College because of the fire that threatened the campus last Friday evening. None of the facilities were damaged and college officials say the campus will be fully functional long before classes begin on Monday, Aug. 21.
