Participants of a Chadron State College conference will again learn ways to improve their child care and education skills. Chadron State College’s 18th Excellence in Early Childhood Conference is Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24, 2007.

The past year will undoubtedly go down as one of the most memorable in Chadron State College’s 95-year history. If for no other reason, that’s true because of the wildfire that threatened the campus in late July when wind-whipped flames rushed over the pine-clad hills to the south and burned to the edge of the football practice fields.

Commencement at Chadron State College last Friday night had a couple of firsts. One was the presentation of the colors by the War Eagle Company, the ROTC Unit at Chadron State, and another was the marriage proposal made by graduate Michael Schumacher of Sidney to his long-time sweetheart, Lauren Hiers, at the end of the exercises.

The November issue of “The Instrumentalist” contains an article by Chadron State College woodwind instructor Carola Winkle. The article entitled “Good Clarinet Tone” focuses on basic embouchure and playing habits that are essential in achieving a good sound on the clarinet. Published in Chicago, “The Instrumentalist” is often regarded as the foremost journal in instrumental music.
