CHADRON – Chadron State College Event Planning and Leadership (CA 239) students hosted the fifth annual Oxfam Hunger Banquet, Monday, Nov. 18, in the Student Center Ballroom. This year’s event discussed food insecurity and hunger throughout the United States.

CHADRON – The Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center is honoring Native American Heritage Month with an exhibit titled “Native American Legacies.” The exhibit includes three art installations and an informational display about Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women now through Dec. 13. The Sandoz Center hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., and Friday from 10 a.m. to noon.

CHADRON – Contrary to some modern interpretations, the relationship between Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, the famous fictional detectives created by Victorian author Arthur Conan Doyle, didn’t have homosexual overtones, and might better be labeled as a bromance.

CHADRON – The Fall 2019 Graves Lecture Series will conclude Nov. 26 with Dr. Susan Schaeffer, a Chadron State College Professor, who will present, “The Mental Health Stigma.” She will discuss issues related to stigmas about mental health and various strategies being implemented to address the issue.

CHADRON – The Nebraska Department of Education has named Chadron State College alumna Megan (McNeil) Helberg the 2019-20 Teacher of the Year. Helberg is in her 10th year at Burwell Public Schools where she is also the head volleyball coach. She teaches eighth grade, junior and senior English.

CHADRON – Chadron State College will become a more integral partner in the state’s efforts to recruit and retain behavioral health professionals with the announcement of Dr. Tara Wilson, associate professor in Counseling, as co-director of the new Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN) Panhandle. Dr. Cate Jones-Hazledine, a CSC adjunct faculty member, and licensed, private-practice psychologist based in Rushville, is the other co-director. Both co-directors will be part-time.

CHADRON – Chadron State College’s The Big Event staff, Event Planning and Leadership (CA 239) students, and members of Project Strive/TRiO volunteered Tuesday, Nov. 5, for the second annual Mini Big Event. A total of 40 volunteers completed 10 jobsites in the Chadron community.
