CHADRON – Dr. Tom Smith, History Professor and Department Chair at Chadron State College, died Saturday, Feb. 21, in Chadron. He was 59. A memorial service for Smith will be Friday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron.

CHADRON – Chadron State College hosted the annual Western District History Day March 4. A variety of categories were offered for high school and middle school student competitors. The top three winners in each category will advance to the Nebraska state contest in Lincoln on April 25. The National History Day theme is Turning Points in History.

CHADRON – Chadron State College’s Senior Art Show, Faulture – Where Creativity Begins, will include work by Bailey Dean of Highmore, South Dakota, and Maya Goss of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Pieces in the exhibit show the students’ creative process in a range of mediums from two-dimensional to three-dimensional.

CHADRON – Chadron State College student Elle Hewitt of Kearney, Nebraska, was appointed Student Conclave President of the Society for Range Management (SRM) at the 2026 conference in Monterey Bay, California, in February. The conclave is the undergraduate section of the international organization.
