A 2004 graduate of Gering High School, Tyler Thompson, is the new student representative on the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges. He was appointed by Gov. Dave Heinemann last month, and succeeds Tyler Pribbeno of Imperial. Thompson is a secondary education major who plans to become a high school English teacher. He initially attended Hastings College, but transferred to Chadron State in the fall of 2005.

Chadron State College students and faculty members were extremely active at the 127th annual meeting of the Nebraska Academy of Sciences in Lincoln recently. They presented 15 papers on an assortment of research projects they conducted. The abstracts were published in the program and proceedings.

Colby Riesen of Chadron was the overall livestock showmanship winner during the recent competition sponsored by the agriculture program at Chadron State College. He entered the finals as the champion sheep showman from the junior division. He was presented a belt buckle.

An Alliance woman, Kylee Stanley, is the new president of the Student Senate at Chadron State College. She succeeds Corey Wasserburger of Fort Worth, Texas, who headed the senate this past year.

Although the process isn’t quite complete, Chadron State College employees had cause for celebration Wednesday morning when the Higher Learning Commission’s five-person evaluation team revealed its findings after a visit to the CSC campus this week. The team members, who examined nearly every aspect of the college, will convey to the HLC North Central Association of Colleges and Schools’ Board of Trustees that Chadron State meets all five criteria and that it found no serious concerns.

One of George Bernard Shaw’s most-often produced plays, “Arms and the Man,” will be presented this weekend by the Theatre Department at Chadron State College. Curtain time in the Memorial Hall Auditorium will be 7:30 p.m.Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 19-21 and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22.
