A Dawes County native and Chadron State College graduate, Sharla Tollman Dowding, is the recipient of the Outstanding Biology Teacher Award for Wyoming for 2004. She received the honor at the recent National Association of Biology Teachers Convention in Chicago.

The first Mari Sandoz Festival will be Friday, Oct. 15 in the Student Center at Chadron State College. Students and faculty from 10 area high schools have been extended special invitations to participate, but the program is open to the public without charge.

Chadron State College will dedicate the new Heritage Trail with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. The ceremony, which is open to the public, will be south of the Chadron State Maintenance Services Building.

Tim Giago, who gained national recognition the past 2 ½ decades as a Lakota newspaper publisher and syndicated columnist, told an audience at Chadron State College on Thursday about his experiences ranging from his education at Jesuit elementary school on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation to a recent brief U.S. Senate campaign.

Chadron certified public accountant Keith Spencer, who provided invaluable service to the Chadron State Foundation for about 35 years, will be presented the college’s Distinguished Service Award Friday evening.
