The second annual Western Nebraska Excellence in Education Conference will be Thursday, Oct. 14 in the Student Center at Chadron State College, the conference coordinator, Cindy Squier, has announced.

The Chadron Community Chorus and Bordeaux Community Band will begin rehearsals soon. The choir’s first session will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 while the band will strike up at 7 p.m, Tuesday, Sept. 7. The rehearsals will be in Memorial Hall at Chadron State College.

Dr. Mike Courbat is a new assistant professor of industrial technology at Chadron State College, replacing Dr. Lee Moeller, who retired after more than 30 years at the college.

Eleven members of the Chadron State College staff and one student have been appointed to serve on the college’s Presidential Search Committee. The committee also includes Clyde Franklin, the director of the Pine Ridge Job Corps Center.

The introduction of 15 new professional staff members opened the new school year at Chadron State College Friday morning. Photos of several others who have accepted new responsibilities also were shown on a large screen in the Student Center.

A 25-year member of the Chadron State College faculty and a former dean, Dr. Margaret Crouse, has been named interim dean of the School of Professional and Graduate Studies at CSC. Her appointment is for two years.

Just in time for the start of the new school year, the physics program at Chadron State College received a huge boost when a retired professor at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City delivered 12 boxes of books pertaining to the discipline late last week.
