CHADRON – Chadron State College alumna Amber (Peterson) Gurley placed fourth in the U.S. National Irish Dance Championship preliminaries July 6 in Phoenix. Of the 3,000 total dancers in the competition, more than 200 were in Gurley’s division of age 22 and over.

CHADRON – Chadron State College’s student newspaper, The Eagle, tied for first place in the General Excellence-College Division in the 2021 Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the National Newspaper Association (NNA). The Eagle Adviser Michael D. Kennedy said the award indicates CSC students are producing work at a level well above their peers across the country.

CHADRON – A Biking USA presentation about a proposed 4,000-mile bike ride in Summer 2022 will be Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. in the Sandoz Center. Social Sciences Professor Dr. Kurt Kinbacher said Biking USA students and faculty members will discuss the route and capstone ideas for the Summer 2022 trip.

CHADRON – Chadron State College graduate student Kaci Waugh recently completed a summer internship with Bailey Lauerman, an Omaha-based creative agency, as a result of participating in Meet the Pros in March. During the conference, students from CSC and other institutions meet professionals in their career field who review their resumes or portfolios, offer advice, and answer questions.

CHADRON – Twenty Chadron State College graduate students received their Master of Arts in Education degrees Aug. 3 in a special ceremony at the Anchorage School District Office. CSC President Dr. Randy Rhine, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jim Powell, and Education Department Chair Dr. Don King presented diplomas to graduates, while Vice Chancellor for Academic Planning and Partnerships Dr. Jodi Kupper represented the Nebraska State College System.

CHADRON – Chadron State College grounds lead Lucinda Mays was recognized Aug. 1 during the Dawes County Fair for her efforts to educate local youth and adults about plants. Mays received the Conservation Award for Natural Resources Education from the Upper Niobrara White Natural Resource District.

CHADRON – The Chadron State College Community Symphonic Band will have its first rehearsal Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall’s Auditorium. All instrumentalists are welcome. For those who do not own an instrument, one will be provided. Rehearsals will be Tuesdays at 7 p.m. throughout the fall semester.

CHADRON – Six Chadron State College students who are members of Phi Beta Lambda placed in the Top 10 of the summer FBLA/PBL National Leadership Conference. More than 12,000 students participated in the online competitive events, leadership sessions, and networking opportunities. The PBL adviser for CSC is Dr. Gary Dusek.

CHADRON – A collaborative program between Chadron State College and Laramie County Community College (LCCC) in Cheyenne, Wyoming, will provide a streamlined transfer process for LCCC Exercise Science students seeking any of CSC’s five Sport, Fitness, and Recreation Management degree options.
