CHADRON – The Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center will host a show of about 50 pieces by Rachel Brownlee, from Wednesday to May 21. Most of the items will be charcoal drawings, however, the exhibit also features a few oil paintings, one watercolor, some calligraphy, and a steam punk style leather skirt and corset.

CHADRON – One of Chadron State College’s most prominent graduates, Dr. Eugene M. Hughes, died March 10 in Flagstaff, Arizona. He was 86. Hughes, recognized as an outstanding mathematics professor at Chadron State College began his career in higher education administration while at CSC and was the president of two major universities and the interim president of a third institution.

CHADRON – Chadron State College hosted the 15th annual Western District History Day March 5. Fifty-four students participated in the virtual event with a theme of Communication in History. Thirty entries will advance to the state competition, which will also be virtual.

CHADRON – Chadron State College’s Business Academy has developed three new focus areas in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree program: Accounting, Digital Marketing, and Healthcare Management. Each of the focus areas will be offered online or face-to-face.

CHADRON – Thirty-three Nebraska high school students have been selected for the Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP) at Chadron State College. Director of Health Professions Kristal Kuhnel said it was quite a challenge to interview the candidates in person, but the effort was worthwhile.

CHADRON – A recent project aimed at removing Russian olive trees from the area around Briggs Pond southwest of the Chadron State College campus unexpectedly revealed the presence of a possible Nebraska State Champion Tree on the Chadron State Foundation’s 50 acre-plus Thompson Natural History Preserve.
