CHADRON – Author, historian, and photographer Jeff Barnes will speak at Chadron State College’s Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. The rich and diverse history and heritage of Nebraska as told through its often-secluded historical monuments and markers will be Barnes’ subject. A question-and-answer session will immediately follow.

CHADRON – Lily Mendoza, founder of the Red Ribbon Skirt Society, along with Red Ribbon Skirt Society spiritual leader Darla Black, will have a presentation about Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Society Chicoine Atrium.

CHADRON – Dr. Ann Buchman, Professor of Physical and Life Sciences, enjoys volunteering. She plays in a church bell choir, has been an instructor in a medical school in Nepal, and conducted science programs for children at the college and at the Chadron Public Library. Recently she’s begun to volunteer with Search Angels, a non-profit organization that assists individuals seeking their biological family roots. CHADRON – During its November meeting in Wayne, Nebraska, the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees approved several new programs, options, and certificates for Chadron State College. They are MBA certificates in Healthcare Management and Digital Marketing, a Media Production minor and option, a Natural Science concentration, a Political Science minor, and a Pre-Art Therapy Option.

CHADRON – Chadron State College’s Eagle Esports club has grown to about 30 members and is planning an open house Tuesday, Nov. 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Kent Hall north wing, second floor. Signs in the lobby will provide directions to the former stairwell storage room that has been revamped for the club.

CHADRON - Chadron State College student Janessa Carley is the Project Strive/TRiO Student of the Month for November. Carley, a junior from Dalton, Nebraska, said she chose Chadron State College because she loves the feeling of being in a small town. Carley went to a small school where she said all the teachers knew her first name, and she chose CSC in part because she wanted her college professors to know her on a personal level, as well.
