This independent report illustrates that the NSCS adds $564.8 million in income to the Nebraska economy each year, signifying that your State Colleges are working for Nebraska.

LINCOLN – Governor Pete Ricketts has appointed Sullivan Jones of Papillion, Matthew Leininger of Auburn, and Brett Hilbers of Valley, to serve as student trustees on the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees. They will each serve a one-year term (2022-2023 academic year) and represent Chadron, Peru, and Wayne State College students, respectively.

CHADRON – Chadron State College Art professors Laura Bentz and Mary Donahue will exhibit black and white photographs and paintings, respectively, in “Quiet Witness of the High Plains” July 14 through Sept. 19 at Fred Simon Gallery in Omaha. The show is co-sponsored by the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment. An opening reception will be July 14 from 5-7 p.m.

CHADRON – In early June, Chadron State College’s Math Science Center of Innovative Learning (COIL) reached substantial completion status. This means the project, or a portion of it, is fit for its intended use and the owner can occupy and use the property, according to Harry Mowry, assistant to the Vice President for Administration and Finance.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Dr. Shaunda French-Collins and Dr. Britt Helmbrecht are the second and third Chadron State College employees to participate in the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP), a premier leadership development program provided by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).

LINCOLN – For the second straight year, the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges froze tuition at the Chadron State, Peru State, and Wayne State Colleges for the 2022-23 Academic Year. The Board also reduced the non-resident undergraduate tuition rate to match the resident rate to encourage out-of-state students to attend a State College in the hope of further addressing Nebraska’s workforce shortage.

CHADRON – More students utilized the Chadron State College Food Pantry during the 2021-22 academic year, according to Project Coordinator Kate Pope. A total of 847 bags, each containing about $20 of groceries, was distributed 11 times, serving 1,347 students. This was an increase from 518 bags serving 739 students the previous year.

CHADRON – The Upward Bound TRiO grant at Chadron State College has been renewed for five years for nearly $1.5 million, an increase from the last five-year grant cycle, according to Upward Bound Director Heather Barry. Barry, who is starting her third year, said the program will be required to serve 63 students compared to 60 high school students in Chadron, Crawford, and Alliance.

Craig Conway, a Publications Specialist in College Relations who managed the Chadron State College Print Shop, died Sunday. He was 46. A memorial service for Conway is scheduled for Friday, June 17 at 10 a.m. at Memorial Hall. A graveside service will be later that day at 2:30 p.m. at the Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery in Bridgeport, Nebraska. A reception will follow at Court House and Jail Rock Golf Course in Bridgeport.
