CHADRON – “Soldiering Into Victory,” a display in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center, commemorating the 75 anniversary of the end of WWII is now open. The Sandoz Center is an official stop on the 2020 Nebraska Tourism Passport program. Visitors can participate with a smart device app or paper booklets available at the front desk. The Sandoz Center is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to noon.

CHADRON – Chadron State College alumna Lillian Derflinger Witt of Gordon, Nebraska, has been sharing her love of history and multiculturalism on stage for more than 10 years through “Dakota Daughters: Wounded Knee 1890, Three Women, Three Lives, Three Cultures.” The other actors are her sister-in-law Geraldine Goes In Center, and Joyce Jefferson.

Chadron – The 2020 annual Story Catcher Writing Workshop will be a one-day virtual event Monday. Registration is $25 for general admission, $10 for Sandoz Society members and students. CHADRON – Chadron State College President Randy Rhine announced Thursday the 2020 Spring Undergraduate and Graduate Commencement Ceremonies have been canceled. The ceremonies were originally scheduled for May 9 but the college postponed the events in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While there won’t be a ceremony this summer, all Spring 2020 graduates are invited to join their fellow graduates at the 2020 Winter ceremonies, scheduled for Dec. 18.

CHADRON – Chadron State College alumna Lindsey Boardman of Medicine Bow, Wyoming, earned the Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Award from the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) in March. The award is one of 15 given annually to educators who are in the first five years of their teaching careers.
