CHADRON – When the world turned into a real-time laboratory for the Risk and Crisis Communication class, Chadron State College professor Dr. Shaunda French-Collins acted quickly. She invited a series of speakers, including CSC alumnae Emma Stokely and Alyssa Sanders, to appear via video conference and discuss how they are handling communications in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

CHADRON – Chadron State College students enrolled in Pathogenic Microbiology this semester explored the epidemiology of the coronavirus and the COVID-19 pandemic. Students generated questions based on reading assignments from their professor, Dr. Ann Buchmann. She then organized the questions and formed three discussion groups to answer them. The students each compiled their findings in a formal paper and short synopsis for the public.

CHADRON – Chadron State College recently recognized its employees for the Teaching Excellence Award and the Eagle Impact Award, recognized those who are retiring, and those who have reached milestone years of service. The college plans an in-person employee recognition luncheon later this fall.

CHADRON – Like many spring events in 2020, the Rising Sophomore Awards were canceled due to COVID-19, however, despite social distancing, the program still recognized students who will be CSC sophomores in the fall. Certificates were mailed to award winners with a letter from Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. James Powell, who helped establish the ceremony five years ago.

CHADRON – Chadron State College honored 315 graduates, 89 earning master’s degrees and 226 earning bachelor’s degrees, with the institution’s first virtual commencement Saturday. Digital Graphic Designer Daniel Binkard edited the video that included recognition of each person earning a bachelor's or master's degree, and congratulatory messages from employees of the college.

The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees had its April 23 business meeting through videoconference – a first for the state colleges and its governing board. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Nebraska’s efforts to limit the number of individuals in close proximity, Gov. Pete Ricketts issued Executive Order 20-03 which allows public bodies to conduct their open meetings through remote electronic means.

CHADRON – Chadron State College will honor 315 candidates for graduation in a virtual commencement exercise on the college’s YouTube site Saturday. Associate Professor Dr. Kurt Kinbacher will provide the message to the graduating class. Opening and closing moments of reflection will be provided by Taylor Osmotherly of Crawford and Kelsey Brummels of Ewing, Neb., respectively.

CHADRON – The Chadron State College Education program hosted a successful virtual accreditation from a Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) peer review team April 19-21. The visit was originally intended to be a face-to-face visit on campus, but was changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Randy Rhine, President of CSC, said he couldn’t imagine a more challenging time for an accreditation site visit.
