LINCOLN, Neb. - Dr. Randy Rhine was inaugurated as the 11th president of Chadron State College during an afternoon ceremony on the CSC campus April 26. Nebraska State College System Chancellor Stan Carpenter said that those in attendance were witnessing one of the system’s most important events.

The Chadron State College Homecoming Committee has chosen the theme of “Heroes Homecoming” for the Oct. 5 CSC football game against Adams State. Committee chairman Dr. Rick Koza said he feels the theme will encourage a wide array of approaches in parade floats, bed sheet posters and other spontaneous art.

Chadron State College's spring commencement graduate ceremony will take place at 8 a.m. in Memorial Hall and the undergraduate commencement service will be at 10 a.m. in Armstrong Gymnasium. Ivy Day honors were conferred May 3.

Seventy-three graduate students from nine states and three foreign countries earned degrees in Chadron State College’s 8 a.m. commencement service while 252 students from 15 states and Canada were honored during the 10 a.m. undergraduate service. Bryce Harrington, son of Kim Harrington, Grand Island, Neb. and Keanna Gross, daughter of John and Peggy Gross, Ainsworth, Neb. were named as the 2013 Chadron State College Ivy Day King and Queen tonight at the annual ceremony co-sponsored by the Blue Key and Cardinal Key honor societies.

About 600 native shrubs and 120 bunch grasses have been planted on the west-facing slope of the Burkhiser building over the past few weeks. The 11,000 square-foot plant bed was mulched with special shredded and chipped pine. The plants will be watered, in part, by snow and rain runoff captured in a 3,500-gallon cistern inside Burkhiser.

Nine Chadron State College students majoring in justice studies will be blogging their London Trip experiences this month. Dr. Tracy Nobiling, professor, will be accompanying a total of 13 students majoring in justice studies on the trip from May 12 through May 25. Dr. Don King, professor and department chair, and Dr. Patti Blundell, professor, will be accompanying 14 education students on the same trip.
