Music enthusiasts will have many opportunities to hear the sounds of the Chadron State College music department through the end of the month. Seven events remain in April. The Faculty Lounge, a jazz group consisting of CSC faculty members, will perform at Wrecker’s Roadhouse in downtown Chadron at 8 p.m. Wednesday for the group’s final performance of the spring semester.

The 19 middle school students who were paired with residents of Chadron State College’s Edna Work Hall and Wing will show the fruits of their labor during the 10th annual Pursuit of Knowledge Honors Fair on Saturday, April 12. The presentations, which are open to the public, will begin at 1 p.m. in the Student Center.

More than 350 Dawes County elementary students will be on the Chadron State College campus in the coming week for two events sponsored by the CSC Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department. About 310 students in kindergarten through fourth grades will participate in Challenge Day activities in the Nelson Physical Activity Center on Thursday, April 10. Chadron fourth-graders will be on campus to learn outdoor skills from CSC students Tuesday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

For the second year in a row, students from Valentine scored the most points at the High School Scholastic Contest at Chadron State College on Friday. This was the 48th year the contest has taken place. Approximately 1,500 students participated. Valentine, which won Division III, barely nipped Rapid City Stevens, the Division I winner, for the most overall points. Valentine scored 50.740 and Stevens scored 50.727.

Chadron State College's Dorset Graves Lecture Series will present two speakers about Lewis and Clark next week. The first will be Kira Gale of Omaha, whose topic is “The Mysterious Death of Meriwether Lewis: Murder or Suicide?” Gale’s presentation will be on the second floor of the Reta King Library at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6.
