Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron for Avis Nelson, widow of Dr. Edwin C. Nelson, who was president of Chadron State College for 18 years between 1967 and 1986. She died Saturday evening at Crestview Manor in Chadron at age 85.

Chadron State College’s health professions program received high marks from current students last week during Health Professions Day, but the approximately 200 students from 30 regional high schools in attendance were told they will have to work hard to succeed in the program.

Tickets will be available at the door for the annual Oktoberfest sponsored by the Campus Historical Forum at Chadron State College on Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Center. The tickets are $6 each. The food will include bratwurst, sauerkraut, potato salad, riva kuga and a beverage. Proceeds are often used to help Historical Forum members take a trip.

The finalists for homecoming royalty at Chadron State College were revealed during a pep rally Friday evening. The king and queen will be crowned at halftime of today’s football game with Western New Mexico.

Two northwest Nebraska residents, Randy Bauer of Chadron and Sherry Retzlaff of Rushville, will be presented Distinguished Alumni Awards during Homecoming activities at Chadron State College this weekend.

The popular play, “Jungalbook,” will be presented this week during homecoming at Chadron State College. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Saturday, Oct. 5 and 7 and again at 2 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Hall.

Sixty students have been nominated for homecoming royalty at Chadron State College. Homecoming will be Saturday, Oct. 7. The king and queen will be crowned at halftime of the football game between the Eagles and Western New Mexico that afternoon. Each organization on campus that is involved in homecoming activities is encouraged to nominate royalty candidates from among its membership.
