U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson met with a panel of Chadron State College students and administrators Thursday to discuss college students' ability to finance college. Nelson, who last month announced his candidacy for re-election, was visiting Chadron State during a swing through western Nebraska.

Strategies that HomeTown Competitiveness has already used to help numerous rural communities throughout Nebraska were outlined Tuesday night to about 30 people who attended an informational meeting at Chadron State College. Jana Jensen of Bingham, an assistant development director for the Nebraska Community Foundation, said the program can help new businesses open and existing businesses expand, providing opportunities for youths to remain in their hometowns.

Four speakers are on the program for the second annual Earth Day Celebration at Chadron State College. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 in the Student Center Ballroom, and is being sponsored by the CSC Geoscience Club. No admission will be charged.

The children of the Child Development Center and West Court housing complex at Chadron State College kicked off the holiday weekend Thursday afternoon with an Easter egg hunt on the college's Dean's Green.

A program on how students who require alternative methods of instruction can make progress in a general educational setting will be given from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 19 in the Student Center Ballroom.

The all-student art exhibit will open Tuesday, April 18 in Memorial Hall. At least 20 students are expected to have their work on display. The show will be judged. It will remain open through April 28.

Chadron State College will “make it official” Friday, April 21, when it celebrates the inauguration of its 10th president, Dr. Janie Park. The event will begin with the inaugural ceremony at 5 p.m. in the Memorial Hall Auditorium. The ceremony will be followed by a reception at the Edna Work Hall lobby. Those events are open to the public free of charge.

About 70 students from seven area high schools attended Art Day at Chadron State College on Wednesday. Schools represented at the event were Bayard, Bridgeport, Gordon-Rushville, Hemingford, Kimball, Mitchell and Morrill. The students participated in three sessions of hands-on activities presented by CSC art faculty members and students.
